People of Leicester! Save a vital part of our heritage – Aylestone Meadows

Please refer to
Leicester Planning application 20090772: Aylestone Meadows (Amended Plans)

Leicester Civic Society are objecting to this application, which if passed would ruin the character of this historic part of Leicester, a haven for wildlife.

Objections by e-mail to
planning@leicester.gov.uk
for the attention of Mr. Sam Peppin Vaughan.

The deadline for this is 23rd February 2011, ready for the Planning Committee meeting on 21st March.

Objections to this planning application include

  • Noise and light pollution.
  • Increased traffic on local roads.
  • Flood risk.
  • Adverse impact on setting of medieval Aylestone Old Bridge.
  • Unsustainable (By the standards set out by Sport England! This is significant, as the planning application concerns a sports development on the site.
  • Poor design.
  • Counter to the Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework (Local Plan).
  • Major threat to wildlife by irreversible damage to Aylestone Meadows Nature Reserve – arguably the most powerful reason for objections.

For more details, please see the
Leicester Civic Society web site
.

Ideally, join the Society and ask for a copy of the 9-page objection letter that they have prepared.

And, please, if you haven’t already,
sign the e-petition on the Leicester City Council web site
. We need a lot more signatures for this to ensure a realistic impact.

For those who live in the Leicester South constituency, please also contact your MP,
Peter Soulsby
at House of Commons, London SW1.
