The Blind Buzz: Cycling For Sight, 2010
Posted by nystagmite in Uncategorized on August 10, 2010
This is a message from Dave White (Blind Stokers Club)
<director@blindstokersclub.org>
Thanks to everyone who made the 6th annual Cycling for Sight a big success, with a record 20 Blind Stokers Club tandem teams, 90 participants and a breakthrough CycloRallye event within the event.
CFS Photo Library. Initial
images of CFS 2010 Photos are posted online for viewing and
download. To search for photos by keyword (mostly first
names), use the search box in upper right. To download,
scroll mouse over photo and use the pop-up window – folder icon.
Thanks to Stephen Stewart for organizing the BSC photo
gallery and to Sue for helping with all the keyword tags. To
contribute your selected unique photos to the library, contact
Stephen at smstewart@roadrunner.com
(on travel thru august 20). Thanks to primary photo
contributors Chris Roesink, Gregg Roesink, Del Sol Lions (Paul
McEneany), and Stephen Stewart.

CFS Video short by Raegan Matthews
of Whatev! Productions is coming soon.
Bike the Bay. Next on
the BSC 2010 Ride Calendar is Bike the Bay, sunday august 29, 2010
http://www.bikethebay.net
This is a sponsored event for BSC
Tandem Team Members; register as "Tandem Teams SDCBC Members"
(each cyclist registers individually) for $47 each. After
completing the ride (wearing CFS jersey), you will be reimbursed
from club budget. This sponsorship applies for BSC tandem
team cyclists riding tandem for this event only. Registering
by friday 8/13 guarantees lowest fee and your registration packet
will be mailed directly to you. BSC captains please assist
or confirm your stoker gets properly registered.
For full enjoyment and most exposure
of the club, plan extra time before the early start and after the
leisurely ride over the bridge and around the Bayshore Bikeway.
Bicycle Coalition complimentary bike parking provided in the
Post-Ride Festival area at Embarcadero Marina Park South, while
the party rolls. This is a great informal opportunity for
the BSC to support our SD County Bicycle Coalition, and to engage,
inform and recruit the local cycling public for the Blind Stokers
Club and Cycling for Sight. This will be Erika’s last ride with
the club before she goes north to join Priscilla at the Hatlen
Center Living Skills Program.
As always, use club policies and
procedures for exceptions or changes to the standing tandem team
partnerships or the stoker transport plans. A few special
notes apply for this large and separately managed event. We
will have a designated auto parking, meeting, and ride-in plan, to
try and group BSC teams for the wave start. More information to
follow on this. For stoker transport (to and from the
to-be-designated location), Sue Stewart is unavailable until 8/21,
so start by working with the BSC standing stoker carpool plan, and
confirm changes or get help from Sue after 8/21.
BSC Classified – Substitute
Captain Needed. David Kuttnauer is looking for temporary
substitute for Captain Chuck Corum, who is out on wandering
adventure until early october. The ideal captain would be
accessible to David (University City area) and available to ride
at least weekly (or more) starting august 21, including BTB.
Please contact David (5’8", 155 lbs) directly
(313-300-5641) if you are qualified and interested in some
energetic tandeming with a great guy.
2 Tandems Donated to BSC.
The club (via the SD Center for the Blind) has received a
generous donation of 2 serviceable tandems, retrieved from storage
by John & Joyce O’Shaughnessy, who discovered why they kept
these tandems after their stokers had moved on. While riding
on CFS sunday, John & Joyce encountered the CFS aid station at
Las Pulgas, and after talking with Sue & Clarence, made a
donation pledge on the spot. BSC prospective captains
without tandems should contact me for details about inheriting one
of these tandems for club use.
